At the risk of having everything go downhill again, I have to say it is GLORIOUS to finally have a kid who sleeps through the night most of the time. He started having regular 10 hour nights at 27 months, but it was only 3 or 4 nights a week. Now, a year later, after having a taste but never getting into a rhythm, at 3.3, it’s 5 or 6 nights a week. He still talks and yells a lot in his sleep, but it doesn’t seem to wake him anymore. So I go back to sleep quickly. And I have to say, I’m much nicer, happier, and less stressed. My temper is more controlled and I have a lot more patience…this must be why other parents like their kids. And like parenting. And actually consider having another (let’s not go that far…)
That’s all. I’m coming out firmly in favor of sleep. I really like it. And I’m all universe-thankingly happy that there’s more of it in our house.
As someone trying desperately to survive my twelve month old’s awful (and seemingly unfixable) sleep problems, still getting up every two hours, sometimes more, I love it love it LOVE IT when someone who has had little sleep for a looong time finally gets to reclaim some zzzz’s.
Hurray for sweet sleep!! Long may it continue for you x
(Also still at the stare-back-at-people-in-terror-and-disbelief stage when they casually enquire as to when #2 will be making an appearance!)
I completely hear you! Until 27 months he was up two or three times a night. Not nursing anymore, but still up every 3 hours or so. When he still wasn’t sleeping at three, I almost hit anyone who asked if we were having another. I tell everyone that if they’ll take both at night, every night, that I’ll have another. ;-) Good luck. If it helps, I know people whose kids started sleeping at 12 months. I knew one who swore things would get better at two, because hers started sleeping at two. And several moms and I, with kids aged 3+ who are just learning to sleep are finally reassured by the books that say, no later than 4. But seriously? 4?!
Horray! Evan was a little older than that when he finally started sleeping through the night. The first time he did a week, I bought him a toy out of sheer joy and thankfulness.
I’m in favor of sleep too! I’m so happy for you!
I will be glad to lose the yelling in sleep – not too encouraged to hear it goes on that long.
Mmmmm…sleep. I’ve heard it’s beautiful. One day I hope to experience it again.
One day, nothing, ck. I hope it’s tonight.
